I felt like eating chicken tonight, so not thinking too long, I headed to KFC. I ordered the food, sat behind the table and then… I saw a little boy (maybe 4-year-old) staring at me. He noticed that I noticed him and seemed a bit scared. He rushed to his grandmother who encouraged him to be polite and say "hello" to me. And he did – he started asking some questions in Chinese. He called me "外国叔叔" (foreign uncle). He asked if I was married. I said "no" and asked him back: "Are you married?" "No, I’m too small!" he answered. "I’m small too!" I said. (In Chinese "small" has the same meaning as "young") The boy looked at his grandmother, then again at me and said: "You must be married! You have a watch and a beard!"
Well, I should have shaved before I had gone out. Remember that a watch and a beard make you married… in some children’s eyes.
Finally he finished eating (he had some ice-cream; he also asked why I had chicken, not ice-cream – hilarious!), came to me and said: "再见，外国叔叔!" (goodbye, foreign uncle!) – "再见，小朋友" (goodbye, young friend).

in Anhui

This is Anhui province (安徽省), city of Wuhu (芜湖). I went there last Sunday to accompany my friend who had a job interview. The city is poorer and less interesting than Hangzhou, but still I could take some photos. And after only 2 days I was back to Hangzhou.

There are fewer shops – and many people sell fruits or other items in the streets.
