My younger brother sent me some photos from my hometown. This year’s winter is very severe. There’s much snow and very cold. Last night’s temperatures were lower than -20 degrees! I don’t like winter, but the photos look wonderful.

Here in Hangzhou winter isn’t cold. Actually this year is much better than previous ones. Shhh… it still hasn’t gone, so please touch wood!

The trees (here poplars and limes) are without leaves. And take a look at the sky! Wow, beautiful colour!

Somewhere over the rainbow… there is my home. Actually it’s near the windmill.

Look at those icicles!! Could be very dangerous.

JJ Lin (林俊杰) is back. The popular singer from Singapore, singing in Mandarin Chinese, has just released his new album titled "100天" ("Hundred Days"), which is related to the period last year when he had problems with his voice and wasn’t able to sing. That must be a depressing moment for every singer, thus new songs from JJ are darker and more melancholic than those from his previous album "JJ陆" ("Sixology"). I loved "JJ陆", the perfect album of pure pop from Far East; so far I’ve been getting used to new sound of "100天". Is it going to take me a hundred days?

Yesterday the weather was terrible: first rainy, then snowy and very cold. Today was diametrically different: beautiful sunshine and clear skies, although still a bit chilly. While yesterday was the good day to stay at home, today I decided to take a walk. I like walking, even aimlessly, just for the fact of moving legs.

Hangzhou has many nice places worth visiting from time to time. Baoshi Hill is a good example; although I’ve been there many times, I always enjoy it. I went there with Tim (who sometimes leaves comments here! and who has just completed his graduating exam – congratulations!).

I usually take my camera, just in case I see some beautiful view. I want to catch it and keep it in my memory.

Not only we enjoyed the view from the hill…

Hangzhou looks amazing! It’s only a pity that the air wasn’t clear enough.

Look at the moss on the rocks! Must be old…

The thing I liked about this gate is… that it’s old and not renovated. In that way it can prove to be really traditional.

I didn’t know the name of these trees. Tim told me that they were called "phoenix trees" (in Chinese "梧桐树"). Hmmm… another word to learn. We learn all the time!

Watching:

"Avatar" – I got a 3-D-headache. Or perhaps it was too late hour to stay at the cinema. Anyway, quite nice movie – but in my opinion overrated. The plot is trivial and predictable; it didn’t leave me any space for imagination. But I must admit.. the effects blew my mind, although in the end I felt it was too much for my poor eyes..

Reading:

"180000 km of adventure" by Tony Halik. A book about travelling through Americas – from remote southern Argentina to the north of Alaska. I love reading books about travels; they let me follow my own dreams.

2009 is over. Welcome, 2010! Happy New Year!
I’m back in China. Hangzhou didn’t celebrate New Year’s Eve. At midnight the streets were quiet and peaceful. With a glass of champagne let’s have a look back at the year which just passed. In music. That’s what I love the most.
